Brew method

Drip machines are the easy, consistent choice. Pour-over gives more control and a cleaner cup. French press gives more body. Cold brew makers make a smooth concentrate for iced coffee.

Capacity

1–2 cups suits one person, 8–12 cups a household, and 12+ cups an office. Check the carafe and reservoir fit your counter and cabinets.

Brew temperature

Good extraction needs water at about 195–205°F (90–96°C). Machines certified by the Specialty Coffee Association are built to hold that range; cheaper machines often run cooler, which tastes sour or thin.

Shower head and bloom

A wide shower head wets all the grounds evenly. A bloom or pre-infusion step lets fresh coffee release gas first. Both make each pot taste more consistent.
