How do you choose?
The decisions that change which grinder fits you.
Burr or blade
Burr grinders crush beans to an even size; blade grinders chop them unevenly. For espresso you need burrs. For any other method, burrs still give a noticeably more even cup.
What you brew
Espresso needs very fine, very even grounds and small adjustment steps. Pour-over needs medium, French press coarse. Buy for the method you brew most, not every method you might try.
Burr type and size
Flat burrs tend to give clearer flavours; conical burrs tend to give more body and are more forgiving. Burr size, alignment and how fine the steps are matter as much as the shape. Cheap burrs handle drip well but often struggle with espresso.
Hand or electric
Hand grinders are cheap, quiet and portable but take effort every morning. Electric grinders are faster and easier but cost more and take counter space.
