Why Trust The Coffee Locator?

When you're about to spend $500 on an espresso machine or $300 on a grinder, you need reviews you can actually trust. Not marketing fluff. Not paid placements. Not "reviews" based on reading spec sheets.

1Complete Editorial Independence

We Buy What We Review

100% of products are purchased with our own funds. We do not accept free samples, loaner units, or review products from manufacturers. Period.

This single policy ensures:

  • No obligation to manufacturers
  • No pressure for positive reviews
  • Freedom to criticize without financial consequences
  • Recommendations based solely on merit

What this means for you: When we say a $200 grinder outperforms a $500 one, there's zero financial incentive behind that statement — just test results.

The Editorial Firewall

Our business team and editorial team operate independently:

Editorial Team Controls:

  • • All product ratings and scores
  • • All rankings and recommendations
  • • All "Best" picks and awards
  • • Review update decisions
  • • Content accuracy and corrections

Business Team CANNOT:

  • • Change ratings or rankings
  • • Remove negative reviews
  • • Influence product recommendations
  • • Override editorial decisions
  • • Accept payment for better placement

Example: We've downgraded top-selling products from 4.5 to 3.8 stars after long-term testing revealed reliability issues — despite them being high affiliate revenue products. Editorial integrity isn't negotiable.

2Rigorous, Hands-On Testing

Not Just Unboxing — Real Testing

Every product undergoes:

Initial Testing (20+ hours minimum)

  • Unboxing and setup documentation
  • 50+ test brews/shots per product
  • Temperature stability testing (±0.1°C precision)
  • Extraction consistency measurements (TDS testing)
  • Comparison against category competitors
  • Cleaning and maintenance evaluation

Long-Term Testing (60-90 days for flagship reviews)

  • Daily use under real-world conditions
  • Performance tracking over time
  • Durability and wear assessment
  • Long-term maintenance requirements
  • Failure mode identification

Blind Comparison Testing

  • Side-by-side tests vs. competitors
  • Taste tests with standardized coffee samples
  • Consistency tests across multiple units (when possible)
  • Build quality comparisons

We don't publish a review until we've lived with the product long enough to have an informed opinion.

3Expert Team with Real Credentials

Our review team includes:

Coffee Expertise

  • • SCA Certified professionals
  • • Q Graders (licensed assessors)
  • • Former specialty coffee professionals
  • • 27+ years combined experience

Technical Expertise

  • • Mechanical engineering backgrounds
  • • Equipment repair technicians
  • • Material science knowledge
  • • Data science expertise

We're not lifestyle bloggers with a coffee hobby — we're coffee professionals who take equipment testing seriously.

4Transparent, Standardized Scoring

The 100-Point System

Every product is evaluated using the same transparent criteria:

CategoryWeightMeasurement Method
Brew Quality
30 pts
Temperature accuracy (±°C), TDS consistency, blind taste tests
Consistency
20 pts
Shot-to-shot variance, repeatability testing, 50+ brew analysis
Ease of Use

Build Quality
15 pts

Innovation assessment, functionality testing

Scores are not arbitrary — they're tied to measurable performance criteria detailed in our Testing Methodology.

5Living Reviews — We Update When Reality Changes

We treat reviews as living documents:

  • Quarterly review checks on all active products
  • Long-term testing updates after 6+ months of use
  • Price change updates when deals or increases occur
  • Competitor comparisons updated when new products launch
  • Downgrade/upgrade ratings when product quality changes

Example: We've downgraded products from 4.3 to 3.9 stars after widespread reports of component failures. We've upgraded others when manufacturers fixed issues. Reviews stay current with reality.

6How We Handle Mistakes

Every reviewer eventually makes mistakes. What matters is how those mistakes are handled. Our corrections policy is unambiguous:

Step 1. Acknowledge

When a factual error is identified and verified, we acknowledge it immediately. We do not quietly edit content and pretend the mistake never occurred. Minor corrections (e.g., a wrong wattage figure) are noted at the bottom of the article with the correction date. Major corrections (e.g., a score change, a revised recommendation) are noted in the article header with a prominent "Updated" label.

Step 2. Verify

Not every correction request is valid. We investigate claimed errors before making changes — verifying against manufacturer documentation, our test data, and multiple independent sources. This prevents well-intentioned but mistaken corrections from introducing new errors, and it protects our editorial integrity from manufacturers who dispute accurate negative findings.

Step 3. Correct Promptly

Verified factual errors are corrected within 48 hours. Score revisions based on new long-term data or widespread reliability issues are implemented within one week. Price updates are made as needed, typically within 24 hours of significant changes.

Step 4. Credit the Finder

When a reader identifies a genuine error, we thank them in our response. We don't credit every correction in the article itself (that would clutter the page), but readers who help us improve our accuracy are valued partners in our commitment to reliability.

Found an error? Contact us with the article URL and specific claim you believe is incorrect. Please include any supporting evidence — a manufacturer spec sheet, independent measurement, or other credible source.

Our Commitment to You

  • Always prioritize accuracy over affiliate revenue
  • Disclose every relationship that could influence trust
  • Update content when new information emerges
  • Correct errors promptly and transparently
  • Test products thoroughly before publishing
  • Maintain editorial independence from business operations
  • Respond to reader feedback within 48 hours
  • Never accept payment for positive reviews
